■ RELIEVED Bootle put behind them a five-match sequence without a victory by brushing aside Clitheroe.
An early goal helped, Sam Hughes swooping on a loose ball to score in the seventh minute after visiting goalkeeper Liam Isherwood had diverted Ben Hodkinson’s low cross into his path.
Clitheroe went closest to scoring a leveller after 65 minutes when Luke Gill struck a post from close range after Bootle custodian Tony Thompson had produced his best to keep out Veron Parny’s initial effort.
