TNS owner signs himself after first home defeat in four years!

MIKE HARRIS, owner of Welsh Premier champions The New Saints, has signed himself as a player and is set to start Saturday’s game against Gap Connah’s Quay.

The Saints lost 2-1 at home to Newtown last weekend – their first home defeat in four years – and Harris has taken matters into his own hands.

The Oswestry-based club host Connah’s Quay in the FAW Welsh Cup semi-final and with a place in the final on the line, the owner wants in.

Despite not playing professionally, Harris has been in training with the rest of the full-time squad this week and is confident he can make an impact on the pitch.

“We have been conceding goals and only scored one last week so I felt that I could do a better job myself, so I am,” he said. “I will be in the starting line-up because we need more firepower up top.

“After a week training hard, I am sure I can help the side and I am confident I can also score a hat-trick tomorrow, having found the back of the net with ease this past week.”

Chief operating officer Ian Williams was able to register Harris minutes before the deadline ahead of the big game and is also confident the move will ensure victory.

“Having watched him in training, he looked sharp and raring to go,” Williams said. “With his movement and agility I am sure he will cause a number of problems for the Gap Connah’s Quay defence and I am relieved we were able to register him in time.”
