Sam Smith Joins Jezolution At Cambridge United

CAMBRIDGE UNITED have paid Lincoln City an undisclosed fee to sign striker Sam Smith.

Smith, 22, scored seven times in 25 Conference Premier appearances for the Imps but missed a large chunk of the season through injury.

He joins the U’s on a two-year contract with the option of a further year should he be a success during his time at the Abbey.

Speaking about his latest signing, U’s boss Jez George told the club’s website: “Sam is a player that we identified during the first few months of last season, but we have needed to be patient in securing this deal.

“We have respected the fact that he was a contracted player at another club and as such have not wanted to comment on any of the unwanted speculation until the transfer was completed.

“Sam fits our profile perfectly. He is young, quick, strong, intelligent and we feel that he has the ability to score goals.

“Sam has been unfortunate with two unrelated injuries over the last two seasons but has passed our stringent medical with flying colours.

“We have now assembled a group of strikers with different and complementary attributes, and have got the maximum possible value from our playing budget by scouting and signing players with potential rather than reputations.”
