Newport County Newcomer Michael Flynn Eyes Promotion

MICHAEL FLYNN is back at Newport County and targeting promotion with the Blue Square Bet Premier club.

The 31-year-old midfielder began his career with the Exiles back in 1999 and was with them for a season before moving to Barry Town.

In 2002 he headed to England to sign for Wigan Athletic and remained with them until the summer of 2005 when he signed for Gillingham.

A two-year stay with the Gills was followed by stints at Huddersfield, Blackpool and Bradford City, with whom he has spent the past three seasons.

He has now returned to his hometown club and has one thing on his mind – getting the Exiles into the League.

Speaking to the South Wales Argus, Flynn said: “I've spent a decade in the Football League and I had offers to stay there and offers to play for clubs in the Conference on better money.

“I could've got more money at other Conference sides but I couldn't face playing against Newport, it's my club.

“I've come here to get promoted, I believe we can get promoted and the gaffer feels the same. As long as we keep doing the hard work I believe we can surprise a few people.”
