NEIL SMITH has been appointed ‘s permanent manager after a successful spell in interim charge of the Ravens.

The 44-year-old former Gillingham, Fulham and midfielder took temporary charge of the first team at the start of February after Mark Goldberg’s departure.

Despite sitting 14th in the table following promotion last term, Goldberg left with chairman Jerry Dolke saying the club’s new investors had “higher expectations”.

Smith, who previously served as Goldberg’s assistant, said: “I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity and would like to thank the board for their backing. I’d also like to thank the fans for their continued support which home and away has been amazing all season.”

Chairman Dolke added: “We have taken time to assess our position and the board have unanimously concluded that Neil and his team have the capability to match the ambitions of the club.”
