captain Angus MacDonald says he wants to stay at the club next season after the Gulls secured their status.

The 23-year-old signed for the club permanently in the summer of 2014 and has come into his own this season with a string of impressive performances.

The former Reading and City defender was made Torquay captain after took over as player-manager in September.

It proved to be a stroke of genius as the Gulls went on a fantastic run and since falling to the bottom of the table in February, they have lost just three of 16 league games, keeping clean sheets in eight of their last 12 matches.

“I'm in no rush to get away from the place,” MacDonald, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, told BBC Radio Devon.

“The club's been good to me for the last two seasons since I've been here. You look at things differently as captain

“Everyone looks up to you as to how you should be acting and leading the team, so I think I've matured massively since the start of the season.”
