CHESTER’S Elliott Durrell certainly made a big impact when climbing off the bench on Saturday – netting a wonder goal from the halfway line!

Twenty years on from David Beckham’s famous long-range strike against Wimbledon, Durrell showed similar technique to grab a point for Chester at Boreham Wood.

Durrell, a summer signing from Tamworth, says Beckham was his idol growing up and he paid the perfect tribute after spotting Wood keeper Grant Smith stray.

He told the Chester Chronicle: “I saw him off his line a phase of play before that and I wasn’t in a position to let loose but I’ve challenged their full-back as the ball has come out and I knew he was too far off his line to make it back if I got it right.

“Growing up my idol was David Beckham and it has been in the press this week that he burst onto the scene with a goal like that and the amount of times I have watched him do that against Wimbledon, as soon as I got the ball at my feet and saw where the keeper was I knew that there was only one thing that I was doing.”

It may only be a few weeks into the new campaign but we could have found our goal of the season already…
