PAUL CARDEN has stepped up from his role as assistant manager to take temporary charge of first team affairs at Tranmere Rovers.

Rovers sacked boss Gary Brabin following Saturday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at promoted Sutton United in the .

Tranmere had started well, winning six of their first seven games, but the loss at Grander Green Lane left the club without a win in four matches and four points off leaders .

Rovers took action and parted company with Brabin and have confirmed that his assistant Carden, 37, will take charge of the team for Saturday’s home game against .

It’s not the first time Carden has replaced Brabin having stepped up to take charge of following Brabin’s move to Everton.

Carden kept the Sandgrounders in the National League at the end of the 2014-15 season but he left Haig Avenue by mutual consent in November of last year.

The former , and Cambridge midfielder teamed up with Brabin again in July, replacing James Quinn as his assistant at Prenton Park.
