Gateshead Appoint Anth Smith

Gateshead have made Anth Smith their permanent manager on a full-time contract running until the end of the season.

GATESHEAD have made Anth Smith their permanent manager on a full-time contract running until the end of the season.

The 41-year-old took over as caretaker boss on Monday following the sacking of Ian Bogie and Terry Mitchell and it has taken the Tynesiders just three days to hand him the role on a permanent basis.

Smith, formerly of Sunderland and Northampton, was manager at Northern League Division Two club Chester-le-Street Town last season prior to joining the Heed in June 2012.

He has since been working with the Blue Square Bet Premier outfits reserve, Under-19 and Under-18 sides.

His first game in charge of the Tynesiders comes away to Cambridge United in The FA Trophy this Saturday.
