Danny Johnson to step down as Radcliffe Borough boss

RADCLIFFE BOROUGH boss Danny Johnson is standing down at the end of the campaign after enduring his “toughest season by some distance”.

The former Nantwich Town manager took charge of Radcliffe in February 2015 and led the club to 19th in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North last season.

Boro have struggled again this term and again sit 19th and just four points above the bottom two after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Scarborough Athletic.

Chairman Bernard Manning stepped down recently after 25 years at the helm and Johnson has decided to follow his lead and announce his departure too.

He told the club’s website: “It has been a very tough decision but one that has been made easier in recent events. I have decided to stand down from my position as manager of Radcliffe Borough Football Club at the end of the current campaign.

“Managing a football club is an unenviable task and this season has been my toughest by some distance. On and off the pitch we just haven’t been able to achieve the standards that we tried to set at the end of last season and the start of this.

“Having said that, there are some excellent up and coming players who now need to learn from this season and rather than trying to look like semi professional footballers they now need to go and become one.

“The chairman made a decision earlier in the week and I believe my decision will help the process of bringing in a new chairman and committee as it is now a blank canvas for the new members to work from.

“They can bring in their own man in to help achieve the success that this magnificent football club deserves. I will be around to the end of the season at least and I will be giving the chairman and this football club nothing less than 100 per cent.

“The players and management team now need to stand up and be counted to ensure we finish the season on a high.”
