FRUSTRATED Woking boss Garry Hill says his side’s poor defending is giving them mountains to climb as they continue to struggle in the National League.

The Cards lost 4-1 at promoted Sutton United on Saturday, their third defeat in four league games, which saw them drop to 20th and just two points above the relegation places.

Hill’s side have conceded 12 goals in those four games and 33 in total so far this season, giving them the second worst defensive record in the division.

Woking have kept only one clean sheet this season and boss Hill says that must change if his side are to start climbing the table.

“The club and the supporters deserve a lot more. As a squad of players and a staff we need to act quick. The goals we are conceding are very cheap and we are giving ourselves mountains to climb.”

Hill, who turns 57 on Saturday when the Cards travel to Torquay in the FA Cup, was also left questioning his side’s desire after the defeat at Sutton.

“I’ve had teams in the past where I have had to separate players at half-time and the end of the game from fighting each other – winning a game has meant so much to them,” he added.

“The problems at the present time are being caused by the Woking FC changing room, in respect of their application.

“I’ve got a boy who came out of the academy and went out on the pitch for 30 minutes and did more than eight or nine of the players. I can’t accept what I saw out there in any way or form and I don’t expect supporters to do that.”
