Southport supporters hailed for kicking out troublemakers

Southport have praised their fans for rooting out troublemakers during their midweek win against Hereford.
The Yellows released a statement praising supporters after objects were thrown from a section of ‘fans’ in the Jack Carr Stand during Tuesday night’s 3-2 home win for Liam Watson’s side in National League North.
A number of troublemakers were subsequently ejected from Haig Avenue after Bulls keeper Brandon Hall spoke to the referee and he consulted with the chief steward. Within minutes the perpetrators had been identified and ejected from the Pure Stadium.
Wednesday’s statement read: “Despite the terrific victory last night against Hereford, the match was marred by an unsavoury incident in the 36th minute when the match referee alerted club staff that objects were being thrown from a section of ‘fans’ in the Jack Carr Stand.
“To the credit of the genuine supporters of Southport Football Club, the perpetrators were identified and ejected within minutes. The club would like to put on record its thanks to those supporters who identified the small element responsible.
“Such behaviour will not be tolerated within The Pure Stadium and any fan seen throwing objects onto the pitch will be immediately ejected and possible prosecution sought.”
Southport bounced back from their FA Cup exit and 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Altrincham on Saturday with a hard-fought victory over Hereford in a rollercoaster clash at the Pure Stadium.
The Robins were rewarded with a trip to National League North rivals York City in Monday’s night’s draw for the first round proper of the FA Cup.
Step 4 Chichester City, the lowest ranked club left in the world’s oldest cup competition, hit the jackpot in the televised draw when they came last out of the hat to earn the cash-laden £36,000 bye into the second round created by the sad demise of Bury and their expulsion from the cup.
