Hitman Barnes-Homer Refinds His Killer Instinct

Matthew Barnes-Homer says a brief sojourn to Sweden earlier this year has helped him rediscover his best goalscoring form.

MATTHEW BARNES-HOMER says a brief sojourn to Sweden earlier this year has helped him rediscover his best goalscoring form.

The former Kidderminster and Luton striker wrote his and Macclesfield’s name into the history books last weekend by scoring both goals in their 2-1 FA Cup Third Round upset of Championship leaders Cardiff City.

Barnes-Homer hardly kicked a ball in anger in the 2011-12 season so had a spell with Swedish club Ostersunds FK.

He returned to England with Blue Square Bet Premier Macclesfield this summer and hasn’t looked back.

Barnes-Homer, who hit his 19th and 20th goals of the season against Cardiff, told The NLP: “It helped going out to Sweden, being away from it all with time to think and get myself back on track. It really helped me focus and find the love.

“I didn’t ever lose love for the game but it helped me find that hunger and bring the fight out in me.

“It’s just a fact I’m enjoying playing with a great bunch of players. Everyone is close, we’re like a family. We win for each other and we fight for each other. It’s nice.”
