Forest Green Rovers have made a major statement of intent by signing Nick Haughton from AFC Fylde – a move that brings one of the National League’s most prolific attacking threats to The New Lawn.
Haughton, 30, bagged 19 league goals last season and chipped in 12 assists, earning a place in the National League Team of the Season.
He missed just one game during the 2024/25 campaign and was a constant threat for the Coasters.
His form sparked interest from across the pyramid, but FGR have beaten off competition to land the experienced midfielder as part of Robbie Savage’s summer rebuild.
The Rovers boss was pleased to get the deal over the line and bring in a player of Haughton’s quality.
He said: “Nick is a superb addition to us and has all the qualities to be a top player for this football club.
“Nick has been attracting interest from teams in the EFL but wants to be a part of something special here at FGR and we’re delighted to have him.”
Haughton, too, was eager to make the move, highlighting Forest Green’s ambition as a key factor in his decision.
“I was really keen to get this done, to a club that was right up there last season, just missed out on the play-offs,” he said.
“I’m ready to help the team this season – hopefully go one step further and get a promotion.”
He also spoke about his style of play and what Rovers fans can expect from him on the pitch.
“Goals, assists – I like to affect the game as much as I can,” he added. “I like to take people on. I like to shoot from all angles.”

New challenge
The midfielder also took a moment to reflect on his seven-year spell at Fylde, where he made over 270 appearances and became a firm fan favourite.
“I’ve met some people there that are going to be my friends for life,” he said.
“I really enjoyed it – the ups and downs like you do at all football clubs. But I’m just ready for a new challenge now and hopefully, yeah, we can push on.”
Fylde confirmed his departure via their website and issued a parting message for their long-serving midfielder.
A statement read: “Nick has always worn the Fylde badge with pride, and we wish him all the very best for the future.
“Chairman David Haythornthwaite and everyone at AFC Fylde would like to thank Nick for his outstanding contribution to the football club over the past seven years.”
Haughton becomes Forest Green’s 11th signing of the summer, following the arrival of Coventry City forward Aidan Dausch, who joined on loan for the remainder of the season on Tuesday.
Forest Green will kick off their season away at Solihull Moors on Saturday, August 9.
National League
On the incoming side, Fylde have added young forward Luca Thomas following a successful trial with the National League North club.
Thomas joins the Coasters after his release from Premier League side Leeds United, having gained experience last season with loan spells at York City and FC Halifax Town.
Elsewhere in the National League, Yeovil Town have completed the signing of forward Junior Morias on a one-year deal from Notts County.
Aldershot Town have brought in experienced defender Will Nightingale, while Truro City have secured former Morecambe midfielder Jake Taylor on a short-term contract.
