CHESTER had to relinquish top spot after dropping points for the first time as Billy Waters cancelled out Hereford’s opener from Billy Phillips.
Chester had the better of the early play with a good exchange of passes ending with Dan Ward shooting over and then a long-range effort from Connor Woods clearing the bar.
But it was Hereford who took the lead when skipper Aaron Skinner made ground down the right and pulled the ball back for Phillips to smash into the roof of the net.
