GREENS’ SAD ANNIVERSARY

HENDON will celebrate a sad anniversary on the day before they face Berkhamsted in the FA Cup on Saturday, writes DAVID BALLHEIMER.
On September 18, 1926, Hampstead Town, as the Greens were known, opened their new Claremont Road ground with an FA Cup tie against, coincidentally, Berkhamsted Town. Hampstead won 4–3 and would spend 82 years and two days at Claremont Road before being forced to finally leave their proud spiritual home – a sombre occasion for all.
