Welcome to the latest update of Fantasy Non-League 2017/18. Today's update covers the period Sunday 11th March 2018 through to Saturday 17th March 2018.
I can't believe how quickly this season has gone. We are now fast approaching the end of March and that means we are about eight weeks away from the end of another Fantasy Non-League season. So, who is in the running for those end of season cash prizes?
Well at the top of the FNL table we still have ShipsUpStreets leading the way with 17,733pts however they are now only 144pts ahead of second placed Up The Bucks! and only 146pts ahead of third placed Roots Hall.
So is our long-time leader being caught or are his teams starting to fade away. I will try to explain this a little later in today's update.
The top ten is covered by 520pts so I think this season's competition could be coming to a very tight finish. In fact, 28 days ago when I last checked the top ten gap it was 648pts, so it has dropped by 128pts in that short period.
At the bottom, JoTown FC are still holding everyone else up. They have 4,732pts and they are 189pts adrift from their nearest rival Yab Toulouse. That gap has grown in the last 28 days by 131pts. The bottom ten teams are now covered by 461pts, unlike the top ten this gap has opened up in the last month.
So why is our leader being caught? I think the key to this is our Manager of the Month for March and also our top five teams this week. Not one of these teams is higher than 365th in the main FNL table, in fact most of them are well below that. So, it does look as though the less popular teams in our competition are the ones on fire at the moment.
ShipsUpStreets our leader only scored 278pts this week which is over 300pts less than our top team of the week. Most of the teams in the top twenty or so will have similar selections apart from maybe one or two teams so it will be those odd teams that will make the difference and I really do think as I said above this could be one of the tightest finishes ever.
