ANDY SCOTT never doubted for a minute that his Aldershot shot side would finally finish off Portsmouth last night.

The Conference side heaped more misery on the 2008 winners in front of the BT Sport cameras and 5,347 fans packed into the Recreation Ground.

A scrappy Mark Molesley goal late in the second half of was enough to dump the League Two side out – and set up a second round tie with .

Scott’s men were the better side over the two games and the winner, nine minutes from time, meant it was the first time Pompey had lost to a side in the Cup.

Scott said: “We spoke with the lads at half time and we had played three halves against Portsmouth and for the majority we had been the better side.

“We just felt we would get stronger if we kept the momentum going and kept believing, there are players out there who have got really good ability and express themselves, but they work ever so hard for each other. I never doubted it.

“We created a lot of chances in the second half and were formidable in the way we drove forward and even when we got the goal we didn’t sit back, nothing surprises me with this group of lads.”

After netting the winner, Molesley said: “We were fantastic over the two games and we deserved this.

“It was an emotional night and the fans were superb. We’ve knocked a big club out and we deserved to – no doubt about it.”
