It's not very often that a set of supporters, who have just seen their side dumped out of the in emphatic fashion by a side, stay around to applaud the opposition off.
After any humiliating defeat, most fans concentrate on their own players instead of congratulating their conquerors – but last night, the Bury faithful did both.
After a terrible performance from the home side, who are bottom of League One, the suffering Shakers fans booed their players off the pitch before quickly turning their attention to the Cards, who were clapped off the field by all four stands.
A stunning away performance saw the Non-League side blow away the League One strugglers, comfortably winning 3-0, and boss Anthony Limbrick said the Bury ovation was an “amazing” gesture.
He told Get Surrey: “It was a real credit that their fans stayed at the end and clapped us.
“That was a really amazing sign of respect that I've never seen before.
“It made me realise how well we'd worked and how well we played out there, so I'm grateful to them for that.”
A well-worked goal from Regan Charles-Cook, before second-half strikes from Inih Effiong and Jamie Philpott, saw Woking heap more misery on Bury while becoming the tenth non-league team to confirm a place in the second round.
The Cards will face the winners of Tranmere vs Peterborough, which is being played at Prenton Park this evening, and Limbrick is relishing the thought of a home tie.
“We love playing at home.” said the manager. “We've got great form there and have only lost twice at home this season.
“We'd like to get back there and we'll fancy ourselves against whoever we get with the carrot of the third round there.”
