Guiseley chairman James Ferguson steps down after nine months in the role

James Ferguson has stepped down as chairman of Guiseley.
The Lions sit bottom of the National League and are highly likely to be relegated in the coming weeks, having avoided relegation on the final day of the last two seasons.
Now Ferguson, who took over the reins in June last year, has resigned from position with immediate effect.
Their campaign has been a disaster since the beginning and a 6-0 hammering at Aldershot put the writing on the wall for manager Adam Lockwood, who was sacked after winning once in their opening seven games.
His replacement, Paul Cox, arrived, having parted company from Barrow, and despite Guiseley moving to a full-time set up, he couldn't turn the Lions' season around. Cox was axed with the club bottom of the division and ten points from safety, in February.
Former Preston and Republic of Ireland defender Sean St Ledger has valiantly taken caretaker charge ever since.
A club statement read: “Guiseley AFC would like to announce that James Ferguson has stood down as Chairman of the club with immediate effect.
“James, joined Guiseley AFC in June 2017, but the opportunity to set up his own company has prevented him from being able to dedicate the amount of time that the role requires.
“Guiseley AFC wishes James all the best in his future venture.
“The new Chairman will be announced in due course.”
Guiseley's home fixture with Dagenham & Redbridge this evening has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
