Biggest upsets in FA Cup history

Six Premier League teams were dumped from the 2018-19 tournament in the third round. Most notably, Premier League leaders Liverpool and former champions Leicester City were knocked out of the competition. While Liverpool did lose to fellow Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester had the humiliating experience of losing to League Two team Newport County.
The FA Cup sees shocks and upsets every year, but some stand out more than others. While Newport County's win was another major underdog victory, it may not get them onto our list of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history.
5 – Manchester City 0-1 Wigan: 2013

The 2013 FA Cup Final featured two very contrasting teams. Manchester City finished the domestic season in second place while Wigan were 42 points worse off and relegated to the Championship. Despite the better Premier League season, Roberto Mancini's team lost to the plucky underdogs in stoppage-time thanks to a Ben Watson header.
4 – 2-1 Arsenal: 1992

Arsenal went into the 1991-92 FA Cup third in second place in the First Division. Meanwhile, Wrexham were at the foot of the Fourth Division table, propping up the entire League. The Gunners looked destine for an easy win thanks to an Alan Smith goal. However, Wrexham found a way back thanks to a 25-yard free-kick goal provided by 37-year-old player Mickey Thomas. Steve Watkin added a late winner to send Arsenal out of the FA Cup.
3 – 2-1 Newcastle: 1972

Hereford were when they met Newcastle in an FA Cup third round replay in February 1972. The first match had ended 2-2 at St. James' Park, but few believed Hereford could replicate their performance from a few weeks earlier. After falling behind, Hereford's Ronnie Radford levelled the score with a 40-yard strike. In extra-time, Ricky George struck the winner to send Hereford into the fourth round.
2 – Sutton 2-1 Coventry City

Coventry City won the 1986-87 edition of the FA Cup. Eighteen months on, Coventry were playing well and comfortable in the First Division. Sutton, on the other hand, were a non-league team just happy to be playing the big boys. Football fans can use gentpromocode to get the best odds on the FA Cup all tournament long. Despite being the professional team, Coventry fell thanks to goals from Tony Rains and Matthew Hanlan. Both became national celebrities for the next few weeks and the answers to countless sports trivia questions.
1 – Liverpool 0-1 Wimbledon

Liverpool were arguably at their pinnacle when they met Wimbledon in the 1987-88 FA Cup Final. Liverpool were expected to play their way through Wimbledon with silky smooth football. But after Wimbledon goalkeeper Dave Beasant saved John Aldridge's penalty, the Dons came to life with gritty determination. Wimbledon battled back leaving Liverpool surprised at what was occurring. The Reds were unable to play their usual attacking game. Dennis Wise's first half free-kick found Lawrie Sanchez's head to give Wimbledon the lead. They never looked back and sealed their place in FA Cup history.
