Tommy Smith has revealed he hopes starring for Braintree Town will earn him a place in the New Zealand squad for the World Cup next year.
The former Ipswich Town and Colchester United defender signed for the Iron earlier this month after returning from Australia and New Zealand, where he played for Macarthur FC and Auckland FC.
Centre-back Smith, 35, resided in New Zealand during his youth and as a result holds dual nationality.
