Gavin’s A Martyr To The Cause!

boss Garry Shephard has expressed his delight at his side's transfer activity after signing a player who was promoted to the Championship in May!

Former Wales international midfielder Gavin Williams has joined from along with defensive midfielder Jarrad Wright on loan from Welsh League side AFC Porth.

Shephard has also brought in centre-back Mark Dodds for his second stint playing for the Martyrs.

Williams was part of the Yeovil squad that won the League One play-off final at in May and is now hoping to get a second successive promotion – this time from the Calor League South & West.

“We have made some great signing in Jarrad and Mark who both did well in their debuts in the cup win against Yate,” said Shephard.

“We also signed Gavin, who has lots of quality and now have a big squad and I'm happy with it – we have needed it due to a large amount of injuries.

“I hope we can push on and will always look for ways for us to improve. If the right person comes along we will look at it and see what we can do.”

Merthyr Town had endured gloomy times with the club being reborn in 2010 following the liquidation of Merthyr Tydfil.
The Penydarren Park side currently sit top of the Calor South & West division and locally-born boss Shephard is delighted with how things are going ahead of their game against fourth placed on Saturday.

He said: “If at the beginning at the season you had offered me this place in the table at this point I would have been very happy, even though have games in hand.

“We are looking good for the weekend with a fully fit squad to pick from. It's not going to be a walk in the park as we saw from the game earlier in the season when played Paulton Rovers but I'm confident of a result.”
