NEW Great Wakering Rovers boss Keith Wilson has been told he will be given time to turn the club's fortunes around.
The ex-Heybridge and Burnham boss, a former Rovers player, is the man Great Wakering have turned to with the club in the Ryman North relegation zone.
Wilson, who has left his coaching role at National League South side East Thurrock United to take the reins, replaces Gary Ansell who quit Rovers last month.
Ansell, who stepped up from assistant to replace Dan Trenkel, steered the club to Ryman North safety last season but they have started the new campaign slowly.
Chairman John Galley says the club received plenty of good applications but the board felt that Wilson – who will work alongside director of football Dave Patience – had all the right attributes for the job.
His first game in charge will be Saturday's visit of league leaders Maldon & Tiptree with Rovers looking to end a run of six straight league defeats.
Chief Galley said: “We had over 31 applicants, with some terrific candidates, and each and every one of them could have brought something different to the table, but Keith edged it, as he was in very strong contention a year ago, before the club decided to appoint Gary Ansell from within.
“Keith's management technique, structure, player contacts, future plans and overall passion for the club, won him a unanimous committee vote and we must now put our faith in him to start a rebuilding process to get the Rovers back on track.
“The committee realised that whoever was going to take the role would need to be given time, as this is not going to be an easy task, and we are all fully behind Keith and his team over the coming months to allow him to build the squad that he thinks will be able to do a job for us.
“I believe that It is a very exciting time ahead for the football club, as we look to rebuild both on and of off the football pitch in all areas, to strengthen both the private and social side, progressing all the way through to new faces on the pitch.
“It is important for us that we have terrific attitudes, commitment and determination in the dressing room, coupled with a team spirit for the fans to get behind the players on a weekly basis.”
