Maidstone believe that day-time training from July will enable the club to continue to grow and have given their manager huge backing.

Jay Saunders, last week, signed a new one-year contract and the Kent club will stand by him even if they fail to avoid the drop.

The board said they wanted to continue their “love affair” with their manager. Co-owner Oliver Ash insists they won't be like other clubs and fire their boss at the first sign of trouble.

He said: “This season has seen us all make mistakes at times and we've got a lot to learn from them going forward.

“We enjoy working with Jay. He and his fantastic family are part of the club and part of the town. As a club we feel he belongs here and we're thrilled he does too. He will be our manager next season come what may and hopefully next season will be an even better one on the pitch that next season.

“This year has been a challenge but we feel we have more than enough in place to take us to the next level.”

Saunders is thrilled by the show of support.

“I'm delighted and I can now put it to bed and concentrate fully on what lies ahead.” he said. “It gives us a chance to start looking forward to next season and our day-time training. It's an important step for the club.”

Some things don't change at Maidstone but there is one thing that certainly is. The club's brand new stand is close to completion after £25,000 was raised by fans to help build the impressive new structure behind one of the goals at the Gallagher Stadium.
