Flying the fl ag of cup traditions

NON-LEAGUE clubs can often dominate the sporting headlines around the time of the third round of the FA Cup. Giant-killing acts make good reading, even in books.
These clubs uphold a tradition that goes back well over 100 years and this can often restore some of the glamour that was associated to the FA Cup.
These days, the big clubs seem more intent on European competition - many of them have foreign ownership and a preponderance of players from overseas.
Most of them adapt well but are possibly unlikely to inherit the same interest in the FA Cup that homegrown players once had.
