STEVE Baines was something of a pioneer. The first former professional footballer of note to become a referee.
The Newark-born centre-half made almost 450 League appearances for Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town, Bradford City, Walsall, Bury, Scunthorpe United and Chesterfield.
