Ahead of the new season, have announced that Northern Ireland international Robbie Weir will wear the captains armband for the Spireites.
The 29-year-old joined Chesterfield last summer from and went on to make 41 first-team appearances but was unable to prevent his side from dropping out of the .
Weir began his career with Sunderland but is perhaps remembered most fondly by fans of Burton Albion, whom he represented for four seasons.
During his time with the Brewers, the defender made over 100 appearances and was part of the side that won promotion to League One in 2015.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Chesterfield manager Martin Allen said, “It’s been three weeks now since we all started back at training and over the three weeks, it’s given me the opportunity on a daily basis to get to know all the characters and personalities of all our players and staff.
Amongst our squad, we have seven players that could most definitely be captain and lead our squad on and off the field to be successful, so it’s been a tough decision.
We have decided that Robbie Weir will be our captain and he will represent us on and off the field. I am absolutely certain that he will do a great job.”
