CHESTER recorded their first opening day league victory in five years.
The hosts controlled proceedings for long spells. However, twice after nudging ahead sloppy defending let them down.
Early on Connor Woods saw an angled effort cleared by Michael Gash, then Offrande Zanzala, with the goal at his mercy, brought out an outstanding save from keeper Peter Crook.
The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes, Zanzala sending a delicious through ball to Crewe loanee Fin Roberts, who drilled past Crook from 18 yards.
