Watson wins a Mariners showdown

THE battle of the Mariners went to Ian Watson’s South Shields side after the hosts weathered a Marine storm to come out on top in an entertaining season opener on South Tyneside.
The visitors came out flying Harvey Gregson curling an effort just over the bar from inside the box within the opening two minutes.
A second opportunity soon saw a chipped ball from the byline find Ashely Hunter, who forced a great reaction save from Jasper Sheik.
