South Shields completed a quick league and cup double over title rivals Chorley after goals from former Gateshead pair Dan Ward and Paul Blackett.
Ward opened the scoring midway through the first half after Daniel Dodds picked out the midfielder.
But Shields took until the 85th minute to double their advantage when Blackett scored from the spot.
Mariners manager Ian Watson revealed that his squad was hit by a bug during the week and was delighted to see his side strengthen their position at the top of the table.
