CORBY TOWN have secured a transfer coup, bringing in former £1million man Izale McLeod following his departure from Yeovil Town.

The 32-year-old striker left the Glovers earlier this month after making just two starts for the League Two outfit following his summer move from Notts County.

Yeovil’s loss is Corby’s gain, however, after manager Gary Mills moved quickly to sign the experienced frontman.

McLeod started his career at Derby County but made his name at MK Dons, netting over 50 times in a three-year spell to earn a move to Charlton for £1.1m in 2007.

Following a disappointing spell at the Valley, McLeod scored 32 times in two seasons for Barnet and then scored another ten during a stint at Portsmouth.

A return to MK Dons didn’t pan out for the Birmingham-born striker and he subsequently had spells with Crawley – where he scored 19 times in 2014-15 – and Notts County before his move to Yeovil.

Corby boss Mills, who replaced Tommy Wright as manager last month, has also signed Stamford forward Jordan Smith.

On Smith’s arrival, Corby boss Mills told the club’s website: “Jordan is a huge signing for the club. He turned down the chance to join a team in the National League North because he can see what me and David (Bell, assistant) are trying to build here and is excited about the future.

“He provides another piece of the jigsaw for us and is yet another leader and winner to add to the dressing room. He will be able to help our local younger lads to develop.

“I would like to thank Graham Drury (Stamford manager) for making the deal happen so professionally.”
