RUSHALL OLYMPIC have wished top scorer Alex Reid well after the striker signed for League One side Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.

Reid, 21, has scored 14 times this season and played a key role in helping the Pics top the Evo-Stik NPL Premier.

The pacy forward joined Rushall in February 2015 and quickly became a fans’ favourite, netting 26 times in his first full season.

Fleetwood, who played a big part in Jamie Vardy’s rise, will hope they have uncovered another Non-League gem after Reid agreed to make the switch to Highbury.

Reid, who impressed the Cod Army during a trial last month, said: “I am absolutely delighted to sign for Fleetwood Town and I cannot wait to get started.

“This is an excellent chance for me to make the step up into League football, and the facilities and people at Fleetwood Town made my decision easy.

“I’m a quick exciting player who always looks to score goals. I like making runs in behind but I am just looking to excite the fans and the best way I feel I can do that is by scoring goals.”

Fleetwood’s development squad coach Paul Murray added: “Alex is a player who did very well for us during his week training at Poolfoot Farm.

“We saw enough to think he has a real chance to develop and progress into our first team.”

Rushall, meanwhile, will be hoping to continue their great form without Reid. The Pics also recently lost captain Joel Kettle to National League side Solihull Moors.

A club statement read: “The Pics have agreed a deal with League One outfit, Fleetwood Town, for the sale of leading goalscorer, Alex Reid.

“Quick, skilful and with an eye for goal, Reid arrived at Dales Lane in February 2015 and made an immediate impact by bagging a brace on his debut.

“We thank him for his excellent service with the Pics and wish him well in this new chapter in his football career.”
