■ BASILDON United were  defeated by Waltham Abbey despite dominating large periods of the game.
Abbey took the lead after 11 minutes when a defensive error allowed Ace’a Laurent to score a well-taken goal. Basildon responded with strong attacking play, with Ryan Mallet hitting the crossbar and then a post with powerful efforts.
Mallet continued to test the Abbey goalkeeper, but his attempts were either saved or blocked. Despite their pressure, Basildon went into half time a goal down.
