THE legacy of Marine’s glorious FA Cup run will be realised as early as this summer when the club install a new 3G surface at their humble Rosset Park home.

The Crosby side won the hearts of a worldwide TV audience of 30 million when they hosted Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the FA Cup on January.

Neil Young’s Step 4 side went down to a 5-0 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s superstars but the £300,000 raised by way of a massive live BBC audience of 6.8 million worldwide, and virtual ticket donations, has set the club up for life.

The run brought the club even closer to its proud community links and have now announced that a 3G pitch will be installed at the Marine Travel Arena this summer to house a number of local projects such as football coaching in schools, walking football, girls football, and partnerships to promote physical and mental health.

In addition to the pitch modernisation, the club will also be widening the entrance to the car park; creating a community garden; and removing the existing unsightly metal fencing on the frontage to College Road.

Electric vehicle charging and cycle parking will also be installed with additional disabled parking and two free parking bays.

Club chairman Paul Leary said: “There are currently no full size enclosed floodlit 3G pitches in Crosby.

“The new pitch will give that facility to the community, and the club will be linking with our partner community groups for them to use on an affordable basis.

“The benefits in getting people active, and improving physical, social and mental health are immense and will be available to all within the community.”
