Tranmere Rovers land Luton Town skipper Steve McNulty

TRANMERE ROVERS have secured the signing of Luton Town centre-back Steve McNulty, following the addition of striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher.

The Hatters captain, 32, has played 125 times for the club and was a big part of the side that won the Conference title in 2013-14.

He has also helped Fleetwood Town to Conference promotion and Tranmere will be hoping he has a similar effect at Prenton Park.

He teams up with former Luton boss Gary Brabin again initially on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

Brabin said: “This signing is a big plus for us. Steve is a local lad, a leader and was in the League Two Team of the Year last season.

“He is the type of player and character that we want at the Club and I think it strengthens our squad even more so I'm delighted to be able to bring him here.”

McNulty added: “This isn't a decision I have taken lightly. It was the toughest I've had to make in my career. However, I am a family man. For three years I have being spending less and less time away from them.

“Any father will tell you that is difficult so, after much deliberation, I felt the time was right to make this decision. It would have been selfish of me to carry on and not think about my family.”

Brabin also added experience to his forward line with the signing of former Huddersfield, Blackpool and Leicester striker Taylor-Fletcher.

The 34-year-old made an instant impact, scoring the first as Tranmere won 2-0 at leaders Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.
