Police investigating after five-figure sum missing at Dover

have enlisted the help of the police after finding a five-figure sum was missing from the club's accounts.

During a routine audit, the Whites discovered that the substantial sum had been “misappropriated from the club's bank accounts.”

The police are now investigating the matter with chairman Jim Parmenter describing the situation as “devastating”.

Parmenter told Dover's website: “This is heart breaking for everyone involved at the club, we've all worked so hard to bring this club back from the brink and put it on a stable footing. To have a staff member in a trusted position do this to our club is devastating.

“Whilst these events will not put the club in any form of financial difficulty, it is a significant sum of money and will bound to have an impact.”

A 43-year-old woman has been arrested and bailed in connection with the alleged theft.

A police spokesman said: “A woman from Gillingham was arrested on Wednesday, October 14 on suspicion of theft and released on bail until Wednesday, October 21 pending further inquiries.”
