I’ve always believed that the most important mantra for any Non-League club is long-term stability.
After all, we’ve seen some calamitous sagas in the past whereby teams attracted a sudden influx of cash to chase immediate playing success.
But once those transient sugar daddy investors depart, clubs invariably end up in a worse shape than they were to begin with.
For example, Rushden & Diamonds rapidly ascended from the Southern League right up to the Football League’s third tier inside seven years (1996-2003) thanks to one man’s deep pockets.
