FORMER Hythe Town boss Scott Porter has been tasked with keeping Whitstable Town in the Ryman South after being named as the club's new manager on Wednesday.
The Oystermen are struggling at the bottom of the table and are 16 points adrift of safety heading into Saturday's home game against Worthing.
Porter, who left Hythe in May 2014 after five years at the club, has been drafted in by Whitstable to replace former Trinidad & Tobago defender Ian Cox, who departed at the start of March after just three months in charge.
The Kent club have won just four of their 37 league games so far this season and have a -66 goal difference but new chairman Adam Lopez-Lightowler hasn't given up hope of a great escape just yet.
He said: “WTFC are pleased to confirm that we have appointed Scott Porter as first team manager to the end of the season.
“This is as a result of WTFC's desire to finish the season strongly and not losing sight of the fact that we as a club want to do all we can to stay in the Ryman South which we feel is where we belong.
“As mentioned previously we have a long term development plan that we are implementing but our current objective is to get as many points on the board as we can.
“All the team and members are supportive of this decision for the remaining games of the season and again ask that our supporters join us to do the same.”
