fan Andy Park has co-ordinated a fundraising campaign for injured striker Matty Hughes.
The Blues forward tore his ACL in October which ruled him out for the season and left him unable to work.
With a young family at home and his wife on paternity leave, his teammates have helped him by raffling a signed Chester shirt, but now further help has come from their division rivals.
Park heard about Hughes’ injury and began rallying his fellow Quakers supporters. Darlington head to Chester today in National North and at half-time Park will present Hughes with the funds raised.
“I read about it and just wanted to help out as we are a family at the end of the day,” Park told Cheshire Live.
“The lad is a normal bloke with a young family who has been left unable to work just before Christmas. We’ll be rivals on Saturday during the game but football is bigger than that and we’ll be doing what we can to help the lad out.
“Hopefully we’ll bring 300 or so for the game. It might be hundreds not thousands but we just wanted to do our little bit.”
