FORMER Rugby Town player Gary Moran has returned to Butlin Road as the club’s caretaker manager following the departure of boss James Jepson.

However, the rookie boss handed in his resignation following Saturday’s 6-0 defeat to Brackley Town in the FA Cup second round qualifying “due to personal reasons”.

It had been a tough start to life in management for Jepson with the Valley picking up just one win from their opening seven league games in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South.

Following his departure, the club turned to a familiar face in Moran to look after first team affairs while they seek a permanent replacement.

The 34-year-old made over 200 appearances for Rugby in two spells from 2002 to 2005 and 2010 to 2012 and his first game in charge will be Saturday’s trip to Lincoln United.
