OMER RIZA has been handed the reins at Cheshunt on a caretaker basis.

The 33-year-old takes on the role following the departure of Tony Faulkner, who brought Riza to the club as player-assistant manager.

Riza began his playing career at Arsenal and has since represented a number of clubs, including Dutch side ADO Den Haag, Turkish clubs Denizlispor and Trabzonspor, and Non-League outfits Cambridge United, Histon and Boreham Wood.

The Turkish-born striker says he’s optimistic he can be a success while in charge of the Ambers.

Omer RizaSpeaking to the club’s website, he said: “It’s new to me but I am ready for the challenge. I am ready for the next step of my career.

“I have always wanted to go into this side of the game. I feel quietly confident I have what it takes to build something.”

Cheshunt, who are 21st in Ryman Division One North after taking four points from their first six league games, face Hertford Town away in the FA Cup Preliminary Round this Saturday.
