Eastleigh’s Ben Williamson switches to Bromley to boost title tilt

Eastleigh striker Ben Williamson is looking forward to making his mark on the National League’s title race after switching to high-flying Bromley.

The Spitfires confirmed the departure of the 30-year-old from the Silverlake Stadium on Thursday after he agreed terms with National League rivals Bromley.

Williamson, pictured, spent three years with the Spitfires after signing from Cambridge United in August 2017. In total, he scored 19 times in 102 appearances.

He reached double figures in his first season on the south coast with 10 goals before scoring seven more last term in the club’s run to the National League play-off semi-finals.

SWITCH: Ben Williamson

Eastleigh boss Ben Strevens paid tribute to the frontman in a club statement announcing his departure.

Strevens said: “Since becoming manager of this club Ben has been first class for me, he has worked hard every day in training and always gives his all in matches. He’s a great lad to have around the squad as well, myself and everyone at the football club wishes him well for the future”

“We would like to thank Ben for his contribution to the club, both on and off the pitch, and wish him the best of luck in the next stage of his career.”

Subject to FA approval, former Port Vale and Gillingham forward Williamson should be available for second-placed Bromley’s short trip to Sutton United’s Gander Green Lane on Saturday after signing for Neil Smith.

He told Bromley’s website: “I had a short spell here during pre-season a couple of years ago, and I’ve kept in touch with Neil ever since. I’m delighted to be here, and my first day back has been great as I know a few of the boys already.”
